A lakeside cottage for remote work

Salkolahti has two properties with gigabit fibre and five cottages with Wi-Fi at approximately 10 Mbit/s. Tampere is about 70 kilometres away, less than an hour by car, so you can move your working week to the lakeside without a long journey.

Connections have been measured and are listed by property. We make no empty promises: at one property a connection cannot be guaranteed, and the table says so clearly.

Which connection suits which work

Daily video meetings. Choose Villa Kiiltäväinen or Villa Längelmä. Both have fixed 1 Gbit/s fibre that supports video meetings even while other guests stream content. Each accommodates eight guests, making them suitable for a team workweek.

A standard remote-working day. Tuura, Tikkamäki, Huvikumpu, Minttu and Tontti work well for email, browsing, cloud services and video calls over a 10 Mbit/s connection. HD streaming by another user may cause interruptions.

Light work and long evenings. You can borrow a 4G mobile router for Vehmaanpirtti and Tivoli. Mobile coverage is good at these properties. They are also the most affordable, from €58 per night.

When it is not suitable. Pielppa is on a private island with no fixed connection. You may borrow a router, but coverage varies and cannot be guaranteed. Choose another property if your work requires certainty.

Working from a cottage in practice

Every property has a dining table suitable for working and electrical sockets. Pielppa uses solar power: a laptop and phone can be charged from a standard socket, but high-powered appliances cannot be used.

Every property has a sauna for after work. Seven properties welcome dogs, making longer stays easier.

Shops and a service station are a drive away, so buy groceries on arrival or replenish them by car. A car is required.

A week or longer

Remote work is best combined with a longer stay: final cleaning is paid once whether you stay for two nights or a week. Ask for a longer-stay price when booking.
