A lakeside winter cottage near Tampere

Villa Kiiltäväinen and Villa Längelmä are available year-round. Both are heated villas for eight guests with three bedrooms, a private shore on Lake Längelmävesi and gigabit fibre. Running water works year-round, and the roads are ploughed and gritted.

The other eight cottages are available from May to September. These two villas are therefore the properties available in winter.

Tampere is about 70 kilometres away, Jyväskylä about 1.5 hours and the Himos slopes about 30 minutes. Prices start at €150 per night.

What a winter stay means in practice

Heating. Both villas are heated and warm when you arrive. You do not need to begin your holiday by heating a cold cottage.

Water. Running water is available year-round. Showers, kitchens and toilets work normally even in freezing temperatures.

Roads. Roads are ploughed and gritted, and a standard passenger car is sufficient. Winter tyres are compulsory in Finland from early November to late March.

Sauna. Villa Kiiltäväinen has an electric sauna year-round. Villa Längelmä has a lakeside sauna. Kiiltäväinen’s summer lakeside sauna is available from 1 May to 30 September.

Internet connection. Both have fixed 1 Gbit/s fibre. It works regardless of the weather and supports video meetings, so a winter stay can be combined with remote work. See cottages for remote work.

Who a winter cottage suits

For Himos skiers. The slopes are about 30 minutes away. A day on the slopes followed by a private lakeside sauna is very different from staying beside the resort. Eight beds suit two families or a group of friends.

For Christmas and New Year. Three bedrooms and spacious shared areas suit a family Christmas. Book early, as holiday dates are the first to fill.

For the winter school holiday. School holidays in February and March are the most popular winter period. Snow conditions vary, but the villas operate regardless of snow.

For a winter remote-working week. The villas are most often available during the darkest months from November to January. Fibre and a warm house make a lakeside working week practical.

For a peaceful weekend. In winter the lake is at its quietest, with very few neighbours around.

Good to know in winter

A car is required; the properties cannot be reached by public transport.
Winter tyres are compulsory from early November to late March.
It gets dark early in winter. On your first visit, plan to arrive during daylight.
Going onto the lake ice is always at your own risk. Ice thickness varies and cannot be judged from the surface.
Pets are not allowed at Villa Kiiltäväinen but are welcome at Villa Längelmä.
Shops and a service station are a drive away, so plan ahead when arriving.
